Fake Swedish Accent
When Sven came home from work that day, he had a hang-dog look on his face.
“Would you like your aquavit?” said his wife.
“No, thanks. I’ll just sit and read the paper,” said Sven, speaking in his regular voice and not his fake Swedish accent.
“Sven, what’s wrong?”
“I got fired. My boss said he was sick and tired of my fake Swedish accent.”
“Did you explain that you’d always wanted to be Swedish, and that was your way of doing it?”
Sven nodded sadly. “But it didn’t make a difference. I guess I’ll stop my fake Swedish accent.”
“So should I go back to calling you Doug?”
“Ja. I mean yes.”
Sven/Doug opened the paper, and his eyes lit up. There was an ad in the classifieds: “Wanted: Executive, fluent in Swedish and English. English with fake Swedish accent O.K.”
